WOMEN BEHAVIOUR CHANGE

A continuous 16 week Behaviour Change programme based on the belief that physical, sexual or psychological violence is not ok. It is for women who are aware that the way they express their anger and use violence and abuse against others is harmful.

Objectives of the Programme:

  • Addressing the nature of violence and abuse
  • Social, cultural and historical context of violence and abuse
  • Effects of violence on children, how to break the intergenerational cycle of violence
  • Anger management – beliefs about anger and the purpose it serves
  • Strategies to keep oneself safe from being violent or abusive
  • Accountability and Responsibility
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Clear non abusive communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Assessment of goals and closure

WOMEN'S SAFETY PROGRAMME

A continuous 15 week safety programme for women who have experienced family violence. This group focuses on educating the participants and empowering them to make positive choices in a safe and confidential environment.

Goals of the Programme:

  • To help women build their self esteem
  • To assist them to explore the social, cultural and historical context of domestic violence
  • To increase the women’s understanding of the effects of such violence on themselves and their families
  • To empower them through education and support to deal with these effects
  • To assist the women assess safety issues for themselves and their children and make appropriate safety plans
  • To provide women with information about Protection Orders, support systems and
    women’s rights.
  • To help women understand that men need to accept responsibility for their own violence
  • To enable women to recognise the components of a healthy relationship and explore
    future options
  • To ensure they know that they have options and to encourage safer choices for themselves and their children
